Quadratic Formula – Math Song (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

Everyone has a first love. Mine was graphing lines until I learned about quadratics. Call me crazy, but I just love a graph with curves! Ok ok jokes over, but I really do enjoy graphing quadratics a lot more than linear equations. Maybe it’s just the quirky teacher in me. After I wrote the “Quadratic Formulove” math song my students began to fall in love with the process almost as much as me. I also got a few of my 8th grade algebra students to join in on this fun math music video. I just love brainwashing students into loving math!

Graph a Line – Math Rap (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

I’ve have a great opportunity to give back to the community where I was raised. I’m blessed because one of the most fulfilling performances I’ve done was captured on film and turned into a video. This video titled, Graph A Line helps students remember the concepts of ordered pairs and to remember the defined method to graph a line.

My hometown Carson, California hosts a teen summit every year and I had the honor of speaking and performing at this event. Today students and parents around the neighborhood still stop me and tell me how much they are motivated by my math songs or how much the songs help their children. What a great feeling!

Slope Intercept – Math Rap (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

The song that started it all! This is the concept I was teaching when my students started begging me to rap for them. “This is boring!” “Can you rap for us?” “You look like Kanye West!” These were the cries of my students for weeks before I agreed to give math rap a try. I’m so thankful for this experience because now I’m able to reach students in ways I never imagined.

Holla SAS or SSS – Math Rap (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

This was without a doubt one of the most fun videos shot by the Music Notes team. Our director, Mr. P told Mr. D and Mr. Q-U-E that he was going to shrink them and put them on a desk for the video. They had no idea what he was talking about until it was time to shoot. There are a lot of cool things going on in this video that will engage any student that needs to learn how to prove congruent triangles. Check it out!

Fractions – Math Rap (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

Fractions! This is one of the most feared words in the history of math. If I had to guess I would say that 8 people out of 10 people will say that they don’t like fractions, they don’t understand fractions, or they are not good at fractions. For these reasons I took a conceptual approach to this song. This song was written during my toughest year of teaching and worked miracles for me during my unit on fractions. Check out this clip and I hope you all enjoy!

Distance Rate Time Rap (Music Video)

One of the most important things a teacher can do is help students take ownership of their education. Writing this song and recording the video was very special because 4 of Mr. Q-U-E’s students took pride in choreographing the dance for the video. This led to a new sense of ownership during this lesson and throughout the school year. As often as we can, teachers should find ways to give students jobs or opportunities to take part in the learning process and make them feel like stakeholders in the classroom.

Music Notes – Polynomial Math Rap (Music Video)

By | Math Music | No Comments

There are students all around the world that are intimidated by math. Especially when the problems appear to be long and ambiguous. For algebra students polynomial problems create fear and anxiety way too often. They are long. They contain variables, exponents, and require application of various math concepts. We as teachers need to break down the barriers that exist among our students before we can start teaching. This song/video about polynomials connects with students at a level they can understand. In the video students see examples of how to deal with peer pressure, have integrity when taking a test, and most importantly how to solve addition and subtraction polynomial problems!

Music Notes – Pythagorean Theorem Math Rap (Music Video)

A squared plus b squared equals c squared never sounded so cool. Thank you Mr. D for putting your special touch on Pythagoras’ formula. Students will never forget this formula after they listen to this math song. Mr. D also does a great job explaining how to how to apply basic math skills while solving for the sides of a right triangle. Check out a clip of the song here.

Music Notes – Solving Equations Math Rap (Music Video)

Shooting a one take video in Tampa, Florida before you get on stage to perform sounds good in theory until you get on stage and realized you used all of your wind performing the song on the way to the stage! In spite of the torture I put my body through I had a great time shooting the video and interacting with the students at Ferrell Middle School. The best part of the experience was seeing students cry during some quick classroom visits. This was one of the best times as an educator and motivator.
